The Kingdom of God is the main theme
By Angela Hays Moore
Want to find out more? Have you heard much on the Kingdom before? The Kingdom of God is a thrilling topic! One that we should be hearing about and talking about all of the time! Why is it that we can’t wait to hear about the newest diet, the best way to look younger, or how to recapture our energy of yesteryear? The Kingdom of God is the Secret to living longer! God promises us eternal life with Him. Don’t you think our new bodies will look great?? Don’t you think we will have all kinds of energy to do cool things? I can’t wait until you read this!
Acts 28:23 says, "When they had set a day for Paul, they came to him at his lodging in large numbers, and he was explaining to them by solemnly testifying about "the Kingdom of God!" and trying to persuade them concerning Jesus, from both the Law of Moses and from the Prophets (the same Old Testament we have today) from morning until evening."
Paul was in chains (Acts 28:20) for the sake of the hope of Israel! That hope was the Kingdom of God, the restored earth that will have the Messiah reigning in Jerusalem on the throne of David forever and ever! (Luke 1).
What did Paul preach? Acts 28:31 says, Paul preached "the Kingdom of God!"
What did Jesus preach? Luke 4:43 Jesus himself says, "I MUST preach "the Kingdom of God!" to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose."
If Jesus had to preach the Kingdom and it was his purpose; and Paul was willing to be chained up for preaching it, shouldn’t we ask, what was it about the Kingdom of God sermons that could have been so important? Shouldn’t we determine what the Kingdom of God is?
From Genesis to Revelation,
the theme is the same: The Kingdom of God
What does the Kingdom encompass?
The Gospel of the Kingdom of God:
The Kingdom of God is the final chapter of God’s master plan for us. This short life we get right now isn’t all there is. There’s more. A lot more. It hinges on whether we accept and believe that Jesus is the Son of the one and only living God. The One and only God who created the heavens and the earth. It hinges on whether we are obedient to the word of God in this present life. It’s true, we all die. But, that’s not the end of the story. When Jesus Christ returns to this earth, those who have loved and obeyed God and His Son, Jesus, will be resurrected from the dead. Changed in the twinkling of an eye. We will receive a new, indestructible body that will be glorious like Jesus’ resurrected body! We will receive the gift of eternal life and live forever and ever with Jesus, here on earth.
The Bible is fascinating to read, because it has all of these prophetic details that God shares with us who are watching for that day. He provides us details on the signs of the last days; that we will get to reign with Jesus for one thousand years in Jerusalem; that there will, indeed be a final war; judgment day; a lake of fire; and the restoration of the world when God will finally come to earth to dwell with us. That is the good news of the Kingdom of God.
The Gospel of the Kingdom message is this: Repent from your sins, believe that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of the Living God, and be saved from the wrath of God that will occur at the end of the ages. By doing so, you will receive the gift of eternal life and inherit the earth or possess the land as an eternal possession and reign with Christ. It’s a revolutionary story that describes a real government, a literal Kingdom, events that will actually lead up to this and really happen. This Kingdom message has a lot of punch to it! It’s not pie in the sky! It might be slow in coming, but it IS Coming! Jesus will put all the nations under his authority. At the very name of Jesus, all knees will bow to him! You, too, can inherit the Kingdom of God and be saved. You can be a co-heir with Christ, as a descendant of Abraham.
Also Crucial to Know:
1) Jesus says in Mark 12:29, "Hear O Israel! The LORD our God is ONE Lord; (God is not two lords….Jesus said so himself!). There is but one LORD God, the Father." I Corinthians 8:6, "There is but ONE GOD, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things and we exist through him."
2) Mark 12:30: "and you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind, and with all your strength."Ask yourself, how much do I truly love God? With everything I am, or just a part of me that I save for Sundays? Am I worshipping a false god in my life? What do I place first in my life?
3) "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Mark 12:31. I love how Paul says it in I Corinthians 13:2: "If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing." This is extremely important when we share with others – are we really loving people the way Jesus did? Are we picking and choosing who we want to share the Gospel with? Do we become hostile when others don’t agree with us?
4) "And without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." Hebrews 11:6 - Believe God! Know what God Promises. Believe what God promises. Share what God promises as though you really believe it!
5) And pray, "Thy Kingdom Come" and "Come, Lord Jesus!" Jesus tells us to pray for his coming Kingdom. Is hasn’t arrived yet. It will be a time of restoration; when we will possess the land forever. (Isaiah 60:21) and the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat (Isaiah 11). This is a physical, on-the-earth kingdom that will really be coming, literally! Are you ready? Do you know the details of which you are hoping and praying?
I pray that the Holy Spirit will lead and guide you as you study God’s Holy Scriptures with fear and trembling, working out your salvation in the knowledge and grace of our dear lord and savior, Jesus the Christ! Pray Psalm 25:5 often: "Lead me in Your truth and teach me."
Come Lord Jesus, Come!
In Christ I live and hope,
